Joan graduated with a B.A. in Biology from Hawthorne College and a Masters Degree in Secondary Science Education from Boston University.  After moving to Cape Cod in 1968, she taught Biology and environmental sciences for the Dennis-Yarmouth School District.  After retiring from teaching in 1993, she enrolled in art classes in Florida and Cape Cod.  She is an artist member of the Cape Cod Art Association and a member of the Yarmouth Artist Guild.
 
Joan has exhibited at the Selectman's' Gallery in West Barnstable, Cape Cod, at the Cape Cod Art Association, the Cultural Center in Yarmouth, and various outdoor shows in Yarmouth and Brewster.
 
Joan's paintings show strong color and light.  With an impressionistic edge exhibited in her oils and watercolors, Joan's landscapes and seascapes relate to her love of the environment.
